Gaslights Over America
Lyrics
Introspoken
(Tell us a story!) Alright, alright... settle down. Pull them blankets up. This one's a true story. (For real true?) Every word, baby. They wrote it all down themselves.
Verse 1
Now gather 'round, children, I got a story to tell ya 'bout a nation of hearts and a place called America, where a man could speak his mind, pray to God, build a home, keep the sweat of his own brow and be left alone. A bell and a quill and a promise in ink: "We the People" - free to speak, free to pray, free to think. But the deep state's a traitor, out here tradin' our data - they really are the cruelest American hatas. Their loyalty lies with the devil's cabal - like MJ said, they don't care about us at all! Then they named it the PATRIOT Act - now ain't that a gaslight? Forty-five days after the towers - signed, sealed, and outta sight. They asked the spy chief, "You watchin' us?" - "No, sir... not wittingly." Then a contractor named Snowden blew the whistle pretty quickly. And on the Fourth of July, while the fireworks fly, it's a beautiful sight - what a fiery sky! But behind all the smoke, it's a total facade: our government's been sold to organized fraud.
Hook
O say, can you see by the gaslight's last gleaming? They light up the sky so you won't see the scheming. Gaslights over America (that never happened!) Gaslights over America (you're imagining things!) O'er the land of the free (long as you agree) and the home of the brave (now hush and behave!)
Verse 2
Media moguls are gangstas, they're a gaggle of shiestas - they truly ain't nothin' but a cult of gaslightas, mind-controllin' the masses that sit on they asses. Please tell me, when did this place get overrun with fascists? At the end of the war! They brought 'em over by the ship - scrubbed files for the Nazis, held together with a paperclip. Ask JFK, ask Bush, and be sure to ask Dulles - who the hell knows exactly? I'm sure Satan could tell us. Dulles ran the Company 'til the Bay of Pigs fell, then Kennedy fired him - and you know the rest well: Dallas, November, a motorcade, a grassy knoll... and the man that he fired sat on the Warren Commission. Now you know. And a Hoover memo, sixty-three: "Mr. George Bush of the CIA"? Coincidence, I'm sure - that's what they always say. The Church Committee caught the Company inside of the press, Mockingbird singin' whatever the spooks thought was best. Then dozens of anchors read the same script on cue: "This is extremely dangerous to our democracy" - for once, it was true! And they call me crazy? Man, I just read what they wrote - it's their own paper trail. I'm just readin' you the quotes.
Hook
O say, can you see by the gaslight's last gleaming? They light up the sky so you won't see the scheming. Gaslights over America (that never happened!) Gaslights over America (you're imagining things!) O'er the land of the free (long as you agree) and the home of the brave (now hush and behave!)
Verse 3
Now controllin' a country takes a plan, understand? Just use the economy - go ask Mr. Greenspan 'bout the Reserve that ain't federal at all - a private affair! Oh my God, the size of the gall! Nineteen-ten, Jekyll Island: "We're goin' duck huntin'!" No ducks - just a senator and bankers plannin' somethin'. Signed it two days 'fore Christmas, nineteen-thirteen: while you were wrappin' presents, they were wrappin' the machine. Now a dollar from back then is worth about three cents, and they call that "stability." Yeah... that makes sense. Two-thousand-eight, the banks bet the house and they lost it - they bailed out the banks and they mailed you the cost of it. Greenspan told Congress, "I have found a flaw" - eighteen years drivin' the bus, and NOW he finds a flaw? Then they called it "transitory" - groceries to the sky - transitory like the truth: it just passed you by. Who you gonna believe - them, or your own lyin' eyes? Every "crazy" thing I said is in their own archives.
Bridgespoken
"...we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence... by the military-industrial complex." That was Eisenhower, children. Five-star general. He'd know. "The very word 'secrecy' is repugnant in a free and open society..." That was Kennedy. Two and a half years later... well. You know. (So is that the end?) Nah, baby. 'Cause we wrestle not against flesh and blood... but against spiritual wickedness in high places. Listen...
Verse 4
Now hold up, children - here's the part they can't erase: "We hold these truths to be self-evident" - can't gaslight what's in your face. "All men are created equal, endowed by their Creator" - by the Creator! Not the Congress, not a lobbyist or a regulator. "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness": a man is free to chase his dream, and can't nobody repossess it. They didn't give it, so they can't take it - it was never theirs to sell - it's in the Book, and it's written 'round the top of a cracked old bell: "Proclaim liberty throughout all the land" - Leviticus twenty-five. The abolitionists named it, and it's cracked... but it's still alive. "The consent of the governed" - that means you and me. Consent ain't "implied," baby. It's ours. And it's free.
Final Hook
O say, can you see? (YES, WE SEE!) By the dawn's early light - not the gaslight's last gleaming! Gaslights over America (we read what you wrote!) Gaslights over America (we kept every note!) O'er the land of the free (and the truth makes us free!) and the home of the brave (and we won't cave!) (Let freedom ring!)
Outrospoken
And that's the story, children, of a place called America. (Does it have a happy ending?) That part ain't written yet, baby. That part's on all of us. Now say your prayers... Lights out.
